Ahmed Shafiu is the Founder and CEO of MVSTAY. A former Deputy Minister of Fisheries, his career has been closely connected to the Maldives, its ocean, island communities and the people who call them home.

From 2013 to 2017, Ahmed worked as a teacher at Gemanafushi School. This experience gave him a strong connection to island life and a deeper understanding of local communities.

As a PADI Diving Instructor, Ahmed also owns Maareha Divers Gemanafushi, a dive centre based in GA. Gemanafushi. His experience beneath the surface has given him firsthand knowledge of the Maldives’ marine environment, dive sites and the importance of responsible ocean tourism.

Ahmed is also the founder of Maldives Fishermen, an organisation representing and supporting fishing communities across the country. His professional background spans public service, education, fisheries, community development, diving and tourism.

Having travelled extensively across the Maldives and worked closely with its communities, Ahmed brings genuine local knowledge and a perspective that reaches far beyond the traditional resort experience.

Through MVSTAY, his vision is to make it easier for travellers to discover different parts of the Maldives by bringing together carefully selected stays, local islands, transfers and authentic experiences in one thoughtfully planned journey.
